STEP 1 · YOUR RECORD

Employee record

Updates live as you type
01 · Employment record
First day of work for pay
02 · Separation and retention
Employment status Required
Last day of employment
How the retention date is counted

Keep the form for three years after the hire date or one year after employment ends, whichever is later. While the person is still employed, keep it for the whole employment period.

03 · Documents and reverification
Section 1 status Optional
Recording a status applies ruleset 2026.1 and evaluates reverification.
Only for noncitizens authorized to work
Record a Section 1 status first
Document type presented Optional
Document choices unlock after a Section 1 status is recorded.
Which documents set a reverification date

Only an Employment Authorization Document or a foreign passport with Form I-94 lets the document expiration set the reverification date. U.S. passports, Permanent Resident Cards, and List B + List C combinations do not. Receipts need a manual follow-up check.
